DVD is one of the optical disc storage formats that are now replaced by the blu ray format. DVD stands for digital versatile disc or the digital video disc. It has the capacity to store data up to six times more than the CD’s. The verbatim dual layer technology permits about 8.5 GB of storing space on the disc. The dual layer technology has two recordable layers that are obtained on a single sided DVD disc. The dual layer is also referred to as the Verbatim double layer. For writing into the DVD a red color laser beam is used whose wavelength is 650 nm. Because of this wavelength it allows for a more precise etching on the surface of the disc and helps to compress data more and increases the recording capacity.
The Verbatim dual layer DVD enables burner and dual layer. A single layer DVD allows 4.7 GB of storage space while it is 8.5 GB for double layered DVD’s. The dual layer is written as DVD+R DL and DVD-R DL on the DVD media. The dual layer offers more speed than compared to the single layer while recording. They are rewritable and allow erasing data any number of times.
